Mental Health and Making a move

Saturday 9th Oct
1 in 4 young Australians are currently experiencing a mental health difficulty. But there’s an even bigger problem: 70% of those who need help don’t get it. And, suicide remains the leading cause of death of young Aussies. In 2019, 461 young people in Australia died by suicide. After friends and family, the internet is the first place young people turn to for information and support, that’s where comes in. ReachOut is there - 24/7 - for whatever life throws at them, with tools, tips, and advice for everything from dealing with exam stress to understanding how to get help for an issue that’s worrying them, provides practical tools designed just for their needs even when they don’t know what they’re looking for. ReachOut helps young people get well, be well and stay well. Provides connection and shared stories through peer support and builds confidence to seek professional help, if needed. And even more than that, ReachOut helps young people turn to support by providing information, peer support, one-on-one telephone support for parents and carers and resources for schools and educators. On the 1st of November my very good friends son, Peter took his own life at a very young age. I saw first hand the devastation of the people left behind, especially his loved ones. This year commemorates 20 years that we lost Peter. In April of 2006, I fought my own demons and tried to take my life. But survived with devastating disabilities and everything else around me, including my 4 children, I was also in a coma for 3 months. I moved to the sunny Queensland in January of 2008 and reached out for help in 2009, I still see my psychologist 12 years later, even though most times I have nothing to talk about but I am helping other people fight their own demons. For the last 3 years, I have wonderful friends, especially 1 best friend who has been very supportive with me. I go to the gym 5 days a week which is also helping me be happy. With this fundraising we are hoping to raise $20,000 which all funds raised go straight to ReachOut helping youngsters with their own mental health. Speak up about anything at all because it is so important and healthy to talk about anything that is bothering you.

Thank you to my Sponsors
